Personal and Professional Creed
As a mental health counselor, it is my passion to help you right where you are in life with the hopes of helping you to learn more about yourself; your hopes, desires, and dreams. My objective is to collaborate with you to provide tools, help, and healing so that you can become the best version of yourself. My job as a counselor is to help you with life situations, emotional struggles, and meet you where you are at in your time of need by providing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that is also client-centered, and solution-focused care. My hope is you will see me as an empathetic, compassionate person who is willing to step into your pain with you and help you walk through it to become the person you are meant to be. Thomas and Sosin (2011) writes, “When you take ownership of your life, you accept the fact that you always have a choice in how to handle problems” (p. 110). As a counselor and a woman, I know it may be a scary proposition to believe and know that you alone can control your future and change your self-limiting beliefs but there is freedom in knowing it is possible. I desire to work with you so that you may discover this truth for yourself.
As a professionally trained counselor who is a Christian, for those who wish to incorporate spirituality into therapy, I desire to help you see God’s love for you through the struggles and hardships you encounter and give you the opportunity to hear from and listen to God when and if you choose to do so.
I believe I am simply God’s vessel that He is using to help transform the lives of children, adolescents, and adults in the community of Monroe and beyond. While serving at Hope Springs Counseling, I have walked alongside, educated, and collaborated with women who have dealt with grief, anxiety, depression, and more. In the past, I have volunteered working with women who were experiencing crisis pregnancies and helped provide a place for women to learn how to set boundaries for themselves, with their partners, and with their children. In addition, I have worked with children in public and private school systems as a special education teacher, and after school administrator, and most recently, as a counseling intern. I have helped children with anger issues, grief, and anxiety as well as social skills development. I have traveled overseas with adolescents where I helped them to learn to believe more fully in who God made them to be while also working with hundreds of students overseas teaching them how to discover who they are and how to overcome many of the obstacles they face in this world. Currently, I serve as an encourager and participant with the Celebrate Recovery program where children, teenagers, and adults are welcome to attend to address life’s hurts, habits, and hang-ups. My ultimate goal and God-given desire as a counselor is to meet you where you are and help you learn, grow, and find purpose, and passion for your life.
